Why and when was Indi created?

Indi was founded in 2013 by Neel Grover, the former CEO of Buy.com, as a passion project for his love for social and content marketing. After 13 years of watching the evolution of social media and performance marketing, Neel wanted to build a platform that helped people make money with their individual talents and interests. With this platform, users are able to cash in on their passion.

In what way does Indi utilize affiliate marketing?

Indi has 2500 merchants and over 80 million products that are 100% affiliate partnerships! Users can use the Indi platform to shop and earn, recommend products, share on-demand content, and provide expert advice. Users can also share in social media with their unique affiliate link for new customer reach, traffic and sales for our merchant partners. Indi is thrilled to offer our technology to ShareASale and Awin.

What kinds of products and deals resonate with your audience?

Indi doesn’t promote offers or coupons, therefore Indi drives high-margin sales for our merchants. Indi rewards creators 70% of our commission rate. So as long as the commission rate is worth their time to get ready, bust out their camera to create amazing content and then act as their virtual sales force in social, brands do well with Indi in the travel, beauty, fashion, health & wellness, sports & outdoors, food, services and jewelry categories.

How does Indi differentiate itself from competitors in the affiliate space?

Thankfully there is no other affiliate that does what Indi does! Indi has an app for creators with all the fun filters, stickers, text overlays, music, etc that creators love today plus the ability to tag their favorite brands, products and services and share with everyone they know. The main KPI for all our merchant partnerships is new customer acquisition.

What are the key factors in determining which programs to join and what do you look for in an advertiser partner?

The product or service has to be social worthy for brands on Indi to succeed. For example, financial brands aren’t as favored given not everyone openly shares their finances. We really look for fun and exciting brands and services that would easily go viral. Indi users love sharing beauty secrets, travel tips, DIY projects, How-to videos, unboxing videos, fashion styling videos, etc. just to name a few.

What are benefits for advertisers working with Indi?

New customers! Indi can provide your loyal customers a way to tag/share your products and earn commission from driving high-margin, new customer sales via their social connections. Plus, being a part of our app allows brands to find new shoppers and influencers to share your brand.

What is the best way that an advertiser can help support their partnership with you?

Giving Indi their highest private commission rate possible to share with our creators to compensate for their time to drive new customers! If our users are not current customers of the merchant, we have you covered! Users can shop, then Indi will send a push notification for them to create content after they have received their item.

Why did you join the Awin and ShareASale networks, and what features do you enjoy?

I absolutely love how ShareASale is built for small business (and large!) and we have referred numerous brands to launch on ShareASale that are new to market because of this business model. Being in affiliate marketing for 20 years where only four of those years have been on the publisher side, I know Awin is the global leader and thrilled to have Awin merchants on Indi.

Do you have any upcoming promotions, new launches, or exciting news you would like to share?

We JUST launched our newly redesigned app! We are requesting 14% commission rates for featured merchant placements and we have a media kit for added exposure. We are gearing up for Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas shopping!

Has there been a pivotal shift or turning point in your affiliate activities within the last 12 months? If so, what was it?

For sure our app launch! With COVID, Indi was really able to step up and help brands engage and connect with their customers in a fun and entertaining way to meet them where they are (on social) and drive new customer business via social recommendations in a profitable way.
