Senior Software Engineer (f/m/d)

Purpose of Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be part of a cross-functional, working on extending and maintaining our Affiliate Marketing platform. Your responsibilities include writing clean, secure, and well-tested code, following best-practice guidelines, and collaborating with the team to operate and enhance assigned parts of the platform. You will have a significant impact in terms of efficiency, problem-solving, and mentoring colleagues. Additionally, you will work closely with the product owner and team members to translate user needs into technical solutions. Throughout the lifecycle of a service or product, from requirements to deployment, support, and maintenance, you will take a leading role, considering deadlines, balancing effort and outcome, and proactively addressing risks. Your contribution will be vital in overcoming challenges and ensuring that our service continues to meet the needs of our business and customers.

You will be joining our Advertiser Tribe is responsible for developing key features on Awin’s next‑generation platform that enable seamless, high‑value connections between advertisers and publishers. We deliver intuitive, user‑friendly front‑end experiences powered by robust, scalable, and secure backend technologies. Our work is grounded in industry best practices and designed to support Awin’s long‑term growth, performance, and innovation. Key Tasks

  • Work inside a small team with a well described and refined product backlog and be comfortable with agile methodologies and practice
  • Improve existing applications, design and build solutions from scratch
  • Develop code and contribute to reviews, retrospectives, planning and development sessions
  • Shape development technologies and practices
  • Follow best-practice guidelines and processes and help to improve those
  • Work with Product Managers to convert user stories to features and tasks
  • Grapple with business logic and help solve business needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely fashion
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal (day-to-day discussions, team meetings) and written forms (documentation, emails, communication tools) with local and remote team members

Whilst the above is a guide to general expectation of the role, we expect this position to evolve allowing you greater scope to gain both knowledge and experience within the online and affiliate marketplace.

Skills & Expertise

Required

  • At least 6+ years of hands-on experience in commercial Software Engineering roles
  • Proven track record with any OOP, ideally Java with Maven and Spring Boot.
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of PHP and willingness to learn.
  • Experience in working with web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and modern frontend frameworks (ideally Angular)
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure or GCP (We are working with AWS)
  • Passion for writing elegant code and a desire to constantly refactor and improve, with a good understanding of SOLID principles
  • Expertise in designing and implementing RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture
  • Ability to conduct a thorough code review process and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven experience in writing well‑structured and maintainable tests, covering Unit, Functional, and End‑to‑End testing.
  • Experience collaborating with teams using Git, following best practices for version control and code reviews.
  • Experience with streaming and queuing solutions (ideally Kafka, Kinesis or SQS)
  • Proficiency in developing cloud applications with Docker and serverless technologies using Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform
  • Understanding of relational database concepts, database design principles, and proficiency in SQL
  • Familiarity with non-relational databases like DynamoDB, MongoDB
  • Successful collaboration within a cross-functional engineering team alongside Product Owners, UX Designers and Agile Coaches
  • Extensive exposure to agile processes, particularly Scrum
  • Knowledge of TDD or BDD practices
  • Experience in monitoring applications
