Purpose of Position

As a Senior DevOps Engineer within a cross-functional service-oriented team, you play a key role in bridging the gap between development and operations. Your focus is on ensuring smooth and efficient product delivery. You are responsible for enabling and supporting engineering teams excelling with their infrastructure. You establish and follow best-practice guidelines, your code is open by default and easy for others to reuse. You are part of a team and with the team extend, maintain and operate assigned parts of our platform. You can make a bigger impact in less time (e.g. efficiency in delivery, problem solving, etc.). You coach and mentor other colleagues, actively facilitate and participate in knowledge-sharing activities both within your team and the wider Engineering and Devops practice. You have a strong understanding of the user needs within your service and work with the product owner and other team members to translate these into technical solutions. You take a leading role through the entire lifecycle of a service or product, from understanding requirements, development to deployment, support and maintenance. You have your teams deadlines in mind, balance effort vs. outcome to find pragmatic solutions and are proactive in raising and mitigating risks. You will help the team in solving the challenges that arise as our business grows and develops; working together to ensure the service continues to meet the needs of our business and its customers

Key Tasks

  • Foster seamless collaboration between development and operations teams by acting as a facilitator and trusted advisor.
  • Equip engineering teams with the necessary tools, knowledge, and expertise to operate effectively in the cloud environment.
  • Lead and execute complex migrations from various source environments to the cloud, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption.
  • Champion and implement Cloud Excellence principles to optimize cloud resource utilization and establish best practices.
  • Drive cross-domain knowledge transfer, promoting the adoption of similar infrastructure architecture across engineering teams.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement of DevOps practices within the engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines for efficient and reliable software delivery.
  • Proactively identify and address issues by designing and implementing monitoring and alerting solutions for applications and infrastructure.
  • Participate in tabletop exercises to prepare for potential incidents and ensure effective response strategies are in place.
  • Take ownership of on-call rotations, ensuring timely identification and resolution of production issues.
  • Lead the RCA process

Skills & Expertise

Technical Expertise:

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a DevOps Engineer role or similar technical role.
  • Strong understanding of cloud computing platforms (AWS) and containerization technologies (Docker). 
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python) for automation tasks.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).
  • Proficiency in IaC languages (Terraform, Terragrunt, CDK, Cloudformation) for infrastructure automation.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (Datadog, Cloudwatch). Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, CircleCI).

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to bridge the gap between development and operations teams.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently.
  • A passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest DevOps tools and technologies.
  • Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to ensuring platform stability and performance.
