Junior Software Engineer (f/m/d)

Purpose of Position

As a Junior Software Engineer you will be part of a cross-functional service-oriented team, working on extending and maintaining our Affiliate Marketing platform.

You will learn to write clean, secure, and well-tested code, actively seeking feedback and adhering to best practices. Collaboration is key as you work alongside your team to extend, maintain, and operate our platform.

Engage in knowledge-sharing activities and contribute to translating user needs into technical solutions. From requirements gathering to deployment and support, you'll be involved in every stage of the product lifecycle. Embrace challenges and proactively address risks to ensure our service continues to evolve and meet customer demands.

The Team

You will be joining our Payments tribe, which plays a crucial role in the central value stream of our business. Our team creates an optimal experience with self-service payment activities for our Advertiser clients, and to increase our speed and flexibility on all our payment traffic. Key Tasks

  • Work inside a small team with a well described and refined product backlog and be comfortable with agile methodologies and practices
  • Improve existing applications
  • Develop code and contribute to reviews, retrospectives, planning and development sessions
  • Follow best-practice guidelines and processes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal (day-to-day discussions, team meetings) and written forms (documentation, emails, communication tools) with local and remote team members

Whilst the above is a guide to general expectation of the role, we expect this position to evolve allowing you greater scope to gain both knowledge and experience within the online and affiliate marketplace.

Skills & Expertise

Required

  • Initial commercial Software Engineering experience
  • Good knowledge of core programming language concepts and OOP, ideally with Java
  • Expertise in building RESTful APIs within a microservices architecture
  • Ability to write unit tests (ideally with JUnit) and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git
  • Understanding of relational databases, database design principles, and experience in SQL
  • Debugging and troubleshooting skills, including error handling in Java code
  • Familiarity with web development concepts such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • First contact with Agile development processes, specifically Scrum

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in SOLID principles
  • Familiarity with essential concepts of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
  • Expertise in Java development frameworks, such as Spring Boot
  • Experience with streaming and queuing solutions like Kafka, Kinesis or SQS
  • Ability to touch modern Angular front-end code when needed
  • First experience working with Cloud technologies, such as AWS or Azure
  • Knowledge of non-relational databases, such as DynamoDB and MongoDB
