Awin Group (comprising Awin and Commission Factory) is providing an update on its ongoing investigation into Honey’s browser extension practices following recent public scrutiny within the affiliate marketing industry.

As soon as Awin Group became aware of the allegations raised publicly, we opened a formal internal investigation into the activity in question. That investigation has since confirmed breaches of our publisher policies. Honey has confirmed they regret the impact this situation has had and agreed that they will work with us to remediate that impact, while supporting us in raising standards. They have implemented initial updates to address the identified behavior, and the investigation remains ongoing.

In line with our standard enforcement processes, Awin Group immediately took protective actions. These included suspending payments and access to new advertiser programs. As of today, these measures remain in place.

Awin’s proprietary Soft Click technology has been active before and throughout this period. This materially reduces the risk of misattribution of publisher value (or commission) and limits direct harm to publishers and creators. While this does not make the identified behavior acceptable, it has allowed Awin Group to manage risk responsibly while establishing facts and determining appropriate long-term remedies.

As part of a path forward, Honey has agreed to collaborate on a meaningful series of initiatives for impacted advertisers and the wider industry, alongside an ongoing contribution toward enhanced oversight and accountability, with the goal of improving industry standards.

Awin Group has asked Honey to finalize its remediation and to commit to meaningful support as soon as practically possible.

In addition, Honey has offered to fund and support:

  • Affiliate network (or mutually agreed third party) access to relevant source code for verification
  • Policies for advertisers to manage coupon codes, including removal of unauthorized or invalid codes
  • Ongoing cooperation with networks and wider industry compliance and network quality teams, including advance notification of material changes to attribution or stand-down logic

Awin Group is committed to enforcing its standards and using this moment to drive lasting improvements in transparency and accountability across the entire affiliate ecosystem. We believe strong enforcement, coupled with constructive industry collaboration, is essential to restoring trust and supporting long-term growth.
