Life at Awin

Edward Chaput

I joined Awin at the very beginning of 2012 and started my career here in the Account Development team looking after some small and medium sized accounts. I had come from a background in IT sales and marketing and this was (and still is)
my first foray in to the world of affiliate marketing. I quickly moved in to our Product team as a Product Manager and stayed there for the next 6 years and have now transitioned to a role focusing on Product Marketing. I have also won 3 Awinner awards and,
more importantly, 2 company pool tournaments!

Working as a Product Manager really exposed me to many different areas of the business and I got to work with interesting people from all our different country offices. I came in to Product Management with a non-technical background which
certainly made it a challenge and a steep learning curve, however, the desire was to have someone in the role who had worked within our Client Services teams and could share those knowledge and insights. It was this input that would help me to do the main
thing we do in Product – we solve problems. We have to determine the right course of action, whether this was for a new product, an amendment to an existing product or fixing an issue. A key part of the role is understanding the problem so that the best solution
for that time can be presented. This requires a good understanding of data but also the ability to talk, listen and form relationships with people all over the business. This also represents some of the challenges, balancing the views of stakeholders and determining
the right outcome based on everyone’ requirements and the potentially contradictory information the data is giving you. However, at then end of it you get to see the Product you gave created, which the Engineers have programmed and the customers need. You
get to see it being used, saving people time and adding value – that’s a great feeling!

After 6 years as a Product Manager I now work with our Global Marketing team as a Product Marketing Manager. The focus of this role is to use data to drive our marketing activity as well as create a clear, consistent message for all the
products and services we offer. Although I am much more reliant on the data in this role there are still stakeholders and people to manage, all with their different requirements and ideas. I came in to this role as the only Product Marketer so there was a
lot of responsibility and a lot of pressure but that is what a lot of Awin is like – there’s always plenty of work to do and if you want the responsibility you can take it, drive it forward and reap the rewards.

However, no matter where I move in the company or how much it changes throughout the years, a few things remain constant. The biggest factor for me continuing to work at Awin is the people who work here. I have never worked in a more friendly
environment where everyone is approachable no matter their seniority or role. We work hard, we have fun and we get along – there is not much more you can ask from an employer.
