I joined Awin in 2014 as an Account Executive in the Account Development department as my second job after university (my first being within at a small recruitment agency). I knew a little bit about digital marketing before starting however I was keen to do something that was more in line with my interests and somewhere that could offer more progression.
As an Account Executive in Account Development, I looked after a wide range of accounts that sold everything from swimwear to airport parking. The wide range of accounts meant I was able to get experience in lots of different areas alongside developing technical and industry knowledge.
A few months into my time at Awin I was promoted to Senior Account Executive, taking on larger agency clients as well as responsibility for helping new joiners to the team. This lead me to then move to a Launch Manager role where alongside looking after a Key Account, I was tasked with creating a new process for the company to use when launching new programmes. As an employee for less than a year, being put in charge of a company-wide process shows that Awin is somewhere that doesn’t limit people based on length of service where progression is encouraged.
Following the completion of this project I moved to the Key Account Management team where I took on a 100% Account Management role and currently look after Hilton Hotels and Plusnet. In this role I work with my clients in creating an effective strategy for their affiliate marketing activity as well as suggesting new opportunities that could lead to good returns. As well as this there are the usual monthly meetings and weekly reports and forecasts that are important for the day to day effectiveness of the programme. I really enjoy my role as I feel I am an extension of my client’s team and am able to make a real difference to their programmes. The different sectors of my account also means that I am never left feeling bored.
If you are thinking about applying for a role at Awin and don’t know much about affiliate marketing I feel my experience shows that you shouldn’t be put off. I think the an important attribute to have is the ability to communicate effectively be that over email, on the phone or face to face. In addition a thirst for knowledge is key as alongside the training the industry and technology is always changing and some of the approaches at Awin can be innovative even to the most seasoned affiliate marketer. Finally, creative flair is always welcomed as even at the junior level you are given a lot of autonomy on the accounts and no idea is too radical if you can back it up.
However, apart from the satisfaction I get from my role, one of the best things about working at Awin is the culture. From day 1 I was encouraged to ask questions and everyone I have asked in my two years has always been willing to help. The company has a real sense of community which is enhanced by the social events, both impromptu and company arranged; the multiplayer activities (Pool, Fifa, Table football) in the breakout area; and of course the amazing Summer Parties. I’m a part of the Social Committee which means we get to put on some really interesting events from a 5-a-side football tournament to a trip to the ice rink. Awin provides a great environment to work in and I can honestly say I enjoy coming into work each day.
